Keeping Original Teeth Strong as We Enter Our Golden Years

Posted on 9/20/2019 by Dan Laizure
Keeping Original Teeth Strong as We Enter Our Golden YearsAs we age, our bodies go through many changes. Some are definitely for the worst—joints start to lose their range of motion, skin becomes less elastic, and our muscles just don't seem to be as capable of doing things they once could.

Aging can also affect your teeth, which is why it's important that you take proper care of them as you enter your golden years. Here are a few tips for maintaining your teeth during your later years.

Keep Brushing and Flossing

One of the best things you can do for your teeth, no matter how old you are is to brush twice a day (at least) and floss once a day. Getting older doesn't change this rule at all! Make sure you use a good toothbrush and brush the front, top, and back of all of your teeth. Also, be sure to brush your tongue.

Visit Us Regularly

Again, getting older doesn't make you exempt from your twice a year regular checkups and cleanings. We hope to continue to see you regularly after you retire so we can keep your teeth and gums in great shape and so we can hear more about how you're enjoying your golden years.

Report Any Medical Changes
If you're going through any medical changes, including illness, chronic condition, or new medication, be sure to mention it to us. Sometimes, these illnesses can affect your oral health in ways you may not be ready for. Some medications can also have side effects that can damage your teeth and gums.

Dry mouth, for example, can lead to a number of oral health issues if not dealt with correctly. Since they're not experts in oral health, sometimes doctors don't pick up on how other conditions can affect your teeth and gums.

We hope you continue to visit us as you get older. We'd love to talk to you about maintaining your healthy teeth, so give us a call today to make an appointment.
