One of our most popular services is crown placement. For a variety of reasons, you and your dentist might decide that a crown is a necessary investment to make. When this is the case, we will make the best choice for your needs, and you will leave our offices with a crown that will make your smile brighter and stronger than ever. Dental crowns are a restorative dentistry procedure.

What is a dental crown?

Dental crowns are custom created to fit specifically your teeth, and are used to help protect all of the surfaces of your tooth. This is done for various reasons, whether you are hoping to preserve the life of a damaged tooth or simply would like to change the appearance of your teeth.

When should I get a dental crown?

There are many reasons that will influence the decision to get a dental crown. Sometimes we encounter patients who have broken or fractured teeth, for example, and the best way to fix them and preserve their life is to place them underneath a protective crown. The same holds true with teeth that are severely decayed – a crown can help protect that tooth and extend its life as long as possible, putting off the need for an extraction and replacement tooth. If your tooth needs special protection after a root canal or even if you’d simply like to cover up a cosmetic imperfection, dental crowns can help.

Are there different kinds of dental crowns?

There are a number of different kinds of dental crowns. There are three main options, for example, that could be right for you. These include gold crowns, all porcelain crowns, and crowns that are porcelain that has been fused to metal. We will help you pick the best one before your procedure begins. If you need to have a crown placed on a back molar, for example, we might recommend a gold filling because it will be out of sight and extremely durable. A porcelain crown is best suited for a front tooth that needs a crown as it looks the most natural.

How long does it take to get a dental crown?

A traditional dental crown takes two appointments to complete. The first appointment will see us preparing your teeth as well as taking an impression of them. The second appointment happens after the crowns arrive, and we place them on your teeth at this time.

Same Day Dental Crowns

We are proud to be able to offer Same Day CEREC crowns. The process for receiving a same-day crown is very similar to the process for receiving a traditional crown, but it is crafted in our office as soon as we take a digital image of your tooth. The method for taking an impression of your teeth is different, in that instead of taking a putty mold of your tooth, we take a digital image of it. Using this method, we get an accurate 3D model of your tooth which we use to construct the same-day crown.
